Yoga Classes in Brighton:
at the studio & online
Michelle Cobbin has been teaching ‘Scaravelli inspired’ Hatha yoga and mindful movement for over 20 years. Students of all abilities are welcome.
My approach to yoga focusses on developing a mindful approach to body awareness through cultivating an attitude of acceptance to the body as it is.
I teach yoga inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. This approach to yoga encourages letting go of tension and being slow and curious with practice which in turn, calms the nervous system.
There is not a sequence of postures (asanas) to learn. Instead each session is led by suggestions from the students on what they need that particular day. I then guide you through small exploratory movements that lead to expressing the asanas with more freedom. We often start with bodies on the ground, giving time to feel what is present. This allows you to become more attuned to your body, which will assist you to move with greater awareness.
I have been teaching yoga regularly since 2001. The predominant influences that inform my yoga are the work of the renowned teacher Vanda Scaravelli and the practice of mindfulness meditation, both of which I have practised since the mid-1990s.
“I have been to many yoga classes over the years but Michelle's classes and teaching have an altogether different effect on me, physically and emotionally. I can arrive at a class feeling really frazzled and the sensitive, caring and thoughtful approach she takes never fails to help me realign and settle. Michelle is hugely knowledgeable, patient and attentive and I would recommend her classes to anyone.”
